Finish

I never thought this day would actually come (Lol), but i actually finished my magazine. However, I still have to do my CCR so I'm not totally off the hook. I'm going to write my script tonight and record on Friday and then submit. I'm almost there and I can't wait to get this weight off my shoulders.

Today in class I was finally able to finish my double page spread. I have been working on this for about 3 days, I was getting so annoyed. I started with the title "Stressed out? WORK IT OUT!" I put "stressed out?" above "WORK IT OUT!" and centered it. I made the "work it out" in bigger font and a different color. I wanted to put in a yellow color to go with the theme, but it didn't show up on the page, so I made it a blue. I started to type up my introduction to my double page spread underneath my title. I put the introduction in "Diavlo" font and everything else in "Aller". I typed up my interview questions and answers. It was hard to space everything out because there was a lot. After changing font sizes and spacing I finally got everything where I want it. I made my questions in bold and a bigger font than the answers. Then I started to do the right side of my double page spread. I ran into an issue with spacing here

Table of contents

I think the table of contents gave me the most issues out of the whole magazine. I wanted a single page for my table of contents, but Joomag only provided a double page spread. I asked all my friends doing a magazine how they made it a single page, but they all told me they had the same issue. No one could figure out how to make the table of contents one page. I searched online for about 20 minutes figuring it out, but nothing said I could make it one page. I decided to just deal with it and start on my table of contents. I started with 5 pages to put in my table of contents then changed it to 4. I had titles written already, but I messed around with them a bit. I wanted to make my page numbers fun and interesting instead of just writing "Pg.5", so I made my page numbers inside a colorful circle. I made each circle a different color. I used light colors though, really giving the summer feel. For example, light pink, light green, and light blue. It took awhile to center the

Cover page

I finally put my magazine together after weeks of procrastination. I brought my computer to class the other day and started to work. I started with my cover page which was quite simple. I just emailed myself all the pictures I was going to use and downloaded them to my computer. After, I selected the picture for my cover page and added it to my file. When it uploaded the picture covered all my text on my cover page. I already had my title written and "Summer Issue". This became a problem because I needed to see the words. I tried dragging the text out and putting it over my picture, but it still wouldn't show. I looked up how to layer photos on Joomag, but nothing helped. Finally I decided just to retype my text since it wasn't a lot. I deleted all the text and uploaded the picture again. I aligned the picture so it would fit perfectly on the page and then added text boxes for my title and subtitle. I decided the make the colors of my title and subtitle a yellow bec

Interview

After I took the pictures with Andrea, I headed towards Maddy's house to interview her. I asked her all the questions I prepared and typed them all on a google docs. She gave really good, long, and insightful answers. However, I had to cut some things she said short because they all wouldn't fit on my double page spread. The interview only took about 20 minutes and was easy. Andrea and Maddy were honestly such a big help in my magazine and I am so grateful. i got home and started to organize all my pictures and questions, just to see which ones I was going to use and not use. I tried to start my magazine, but I didn't really understand how to layer my text over my photos and move everything around. I asked Kayla if she'd help me in class and she said yea, since most of her project was finished. I'm finally more calm since I took my pictures and got everything moving. I am ready to put my whole magazine together. I'll talk to you guys later.

Pictures

So I've finally was able to take my pictures. On Monday i had Andrea come to my house afterschool to take pictures. She didn't have many work out clothes, so I had to let her borrow some of mine. I gave her black leggings and I decided on a bright yellow shirt because it really gave off the summer mood. Since we didn't have a gym available to go and take pictures, we improvised and I decided to take the pictures at my neighborhood park on the basketball court. It seemed like a good setting because it is outside and also shows an exercise area. It was a perfect day to take pictures because it was extremely sunny. I had to edit the cover image so it looked a tad bit brighter, but I didn't have to do much. Pictures didn't take that long, only about a half an hour. I also took the pictures for the ab workout examples on the basketball court as well. It was quick and easy and was able to get everything done. The only thing that slowed down my picture process were my tw

Trouble

So I ran into a bit of a problem today. I had planned with Maddy to take the pictures today, but when I asked to go take the pictures she told me she wasn't feeling well and her parents weren't letting her go out. I had to ask my other friend Andrea if she could take the pictures with me and she said she could, but that she wouldn't be home until nigh time. This was an issue because since I am doing the summer issue, my pictures need to be taken outside in the daytime when there is sun. So this is a little setback for me, but tomorrow afterschool Andrea is going to take the pictures with me and I'll finally be able to finish my magazine. The only thing is, I will have to find a new location for pictures because Andrea does not belong to the same gym as I do and you can't enter unless you have a membership. I don't think it will be a big issue on finding a new place since there are more than 1 gyms around where I live. Because I couldn't take pictures today

Beginning

Image
In class the other day I decided to write my double page spread. I had Kayla help me come up with interview questions and how I should start it. I actually began to make a lot of progress. I wrote the introduction to the double page spread and five questions to ask during the interview. Then I had to start thinking how i would lay out the double page spread. I didn't want to write "I asked" and "She responded" over and over again because that'd be very annoying to readers, so I went online and looked up examples of magazines. One magazine really stood out to me and gave me the idea of how I will write my double page spread. This is what my inspiration was:  I really liked how they bolded the questions and gave them a different font with the answers underneath. This makes it easier for readers to read it and understand the flow. After writing my intro and analyzing my layout, I moved on to my table of contents. I kind of forgot about the whol

Discussion

Yesterday we had another class discussion and we were in groups so we could give each other feedback on our projects. I didn't have much done to show the group, but i explained to them my ideas and what I had planned and they actually really helped me out. Especially one girl in my group who was also doing a magazine gave me some good ideas. She showed her magazine, only the cover page and table of contents because that's all she had done, but it was really good. It really help me to see hers to be inspired to do mine. She had most of her stuff done, the only thing I told her to add was the barcode and I helped go on a barcode website and make one and put it on her magazine to look good. At first it kind of looked out of place with the rest of her cover, but after a couple of tries and a few different people helping I fin ally got it.  I told her the theme of my magazine and the ideas. I explained how I was conflicted on my cover image and that I wasn't really sure wha

I don't know

I have been kind of overwhelmed lately with everything and this project. I know I need to get this done and I will, but I just am at a point where I don't know what to do. I try and start my pictures, but then I decide to write my double page spread first, and then I go back to my cover page again. I have been very indecisive lately and can't concentrate on one thing. I guess you can say I'm in a writers block because I know what I want to write for my double page spread I just don't know how o say it or word it or even start it. I think I just need to take a break, step out for awhile and clear my head. I'll probably try to start writing the double page spread tonight and finish by the end of the week, so then I can take my pictures this weekend. Well I'll keep you guys updated, talk to you later.

Ab workout

Image
For the other half of my double page spread it will be 6 easy ab workouts that you can fit in during your busy day. I began looking up different ab workouts and which are most effective. I workout a lot and I enjoy doing abs so I already know many ab workouts and which ones are effective which helped. I chose to do 30-50 mountain climbers. I did a range of numbers because everyone is different and 30 may be too easy for some people while 50 can be a lot. I want the people to feel that they can do it at their own pace. The second workout is 20-40 bicycle crunches. The third workout is 20-30 sitting twist. For this one i will add an optional use of weight. Either you can just use your hands as the weight or hold a ball that weighs 6,8,10 pounds depending how easy or hard it is for you. The fourth workout is 20-30 lying heel touches. This one stands out from the rest because instead of working out your direct core this workouts your side flabs. Getting rid of the fat on the side of your b

Double page

So I haven't really done anything for my project yet, but I have all the ideas. I kind of got carried away during spring break and didn't pay attention to my project. I didn't end up taking my pictures, I've decided that I am going to write my double page spread first and then take the pictures. Clearly I am going to have to go back to the grocery store and buy my ingredients for the acai bowl, but also it gives me more time to contemplate if I actually want my acai bowl as my cover page. In an earlier blog I discussed how I will interview a high school student for my double page spread. Well I found the student that I will interview. Her name is Maddy and she is 16 years old. She is in 11th grade, loves to workout, and is involved in outside of school activities. I thought that she was the perfect candidate for my double page spread because she is young and a girl, which appeals to my target audience. Also, she is fit, loves to workout, and is involved in multiple extr
